The Lower Street Chapel of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Newcastle-under-Lyme was erected in 1799. Between 1829 and 1836 Rhodes and Pedley family members were Christened in this Chapel. The Wesleyans moved to the Brunswick Chapel in 1861 and it was then occupied by the Methodist Reform Church. The Lower Street Chapel was demolished in the early 1960's to make way for a by-pass road.

William Pedley married Elizabeth. They are known to have had four children and these were all Christened in the Lower Street Chapel. There may be more children since no research has been carried out past 1837. The eldest daughter Emma married James Rhodes who was Christened in the same Chapel.
